Kharkiv Mayor's Cup 2009

          Kharkov has a more than thirty-year-old tradition of hosting big ball-room dance tournaments. Since 2004 the open DanceSport Festival-Contest «Kharkov Mayor’s Cup» with participation of foreign sport delegations and twin-cities’ teams has been organized by Kharkov City Council together with Kharkov City DanceSport Center «SPUTNIK» and city public DanceSport organisations in our city.

          Within the bounds of this competition in 2007-2008 years the World Dance Council empowered Kharkov to take the World Championship of Amateur couples. In 2009 within the bounds of this competition takes place World Dance Council Amateur League European Championships.

          Taking into consideration that Kharkov has 16 twin-cities in 12 countries of the world, and the Ukrainian DanceSport School enjoys a deserved prestige in Europe and in the world, one of the main goals of the Festival is further strengthening and developing of friendly relations with twin-cities and city-partners of Kharkov.

          Good organization of the tournament, high level of international judging, warm welcome from the people of Kharkov have led to popularity of the Festival in the world of ball-room dance; about 3000 couples from 11 countries of the world took part in the Festival for the period of three years.

          And the World Dance Council has given the right to the city of Kharkov to organize the World Cup among the amateur couples this year in the city of Kharkov. The organizers of the Cup are WDC Amateur League and Kharkov City DanceSport Center «SPUTNIK».

          The event combining two festivals will be a real holiday of sport, art and beauty, it will contribute to further development of ball-room dances in Kharkov, Ukraine and in the world, will help to discover new bright talents, introduce children and youth to the beautiful art and sport and promote healthy life style.
